A furious Ugandan fisherman has been hailed a hero after he tracked down and slaughtered a 25-foot-long crocodile that attacked and ate his eight-month-pregnant wife.
Mubarak Batambuze was left devastated when Demeteriya Nabwire and their unborn baby were killed by the deadly beast while searching for firewood in Nawaikoke, reports New Vision.
The same 2,200-pound creature was believed to have also eaten five other women and children in the last year.
Batambuze spent his $7 life savings on a sharp spear.
He then took his new weapon down to the riverbank, close to where his wife's slippers and severed digits were found last Sunday morning.
The 56-year-old spotted the killer croc and stabbed it in the stomach before hauling the dead animal up to the shore with the help of five other fishermen.
Relieved residents hoisted Batambuze on their shoulders to show their thanks for eliminating the beast that had been terrorizing the area, reports New Vision.
A spokesman for Kaliro district called for the Ugandan Wildlife Authority to pay the widower compensation for the loss of his wife. Officials had repeatedly ignored appeals to have deadly crocodiles in the area captured and relocated, he told New Vision.
But UWA bosses said it did not pay out for people killed by crocs, and claimed they were now capturing and sending the deadly reptiles to national parks.
