A Florida father demonstrated the proper way to beat his child —
legally. The unnamed dad wanted to beat his 12-year-old daughter for
fighting with her sister. But he feared the assault would land him
behind bars for child abuse. So he called the Okeechobee County
Sheriff's Office to oversee the child abuse.
After viewing the beating, the cop gave the father his approval and
left the home.
If you think this was an unusual waste of police resources, it isn't.
It is actually routine for cops to go out on these types of house
calls.
In Florida it is legal to physically abuse your child — as long as the
assault is done within the very narrow confines of the law.
Under Florida law, child abuse is considered unlawful if it results in
serious injuries or death.
'Serious injuries' are defined as broken bones, broken nose, black
eyes, lacerations, burns, etc. Apparently bruises and everything else
are legal.
Undersheriff Noel Stephen said he has personally supervised
approximately 12 spankings, according to WLWT.
"It happens," said Stephen. "It's definitely not something we
advertise." He added that "watching a parent discipline their child is
something that's done only when a deputy has no other calls to
handle."
