PENWELL, Texas (AP) — Law enforcement officials say a bus carrying 12
prisoners and three corrections officers fell from an overpass in West
Texas and crashed onto train tracks below, killing an unspecified
number of people.
Department of Public Safety trooper Shawn Baxter, who is en route to
the scene west of Odessa near Penwell, could not confirm details
Wednesday morning but said it was a fatal accident.
Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesman Jason Clark says the
DPS reported that a train may have collided with the bus or been
struck by it after the bus fell from the overpass.
A spokeswoman says Medical Center Hospital in Odessa is treating five
patients had no more information.
Clark says the bus was traveling from Abilene to El Paso with 12
