A Florida woman believed killing her former boyfriend was the only way
to free herself from a curse he had placed on her, police allege.
Amanda Mandee Lopez, 26, was arrested Monday by Kissimmee police
officers while trying to board a bus from Orlando to New York City,
for allegedly stabbing her 57-year-old ex Larry Lee Fryar in his home
at 2 a.m. Monday, police report.
The suspect told police she had contemplated the murder for over a
year because she believes he put a curse on her, according to an
affidavit supplied by police to the Daily News. They two had been in
an "on and off" relationship for the past year, police said.
"Amanda felt the only way she could be free from her curse was to kill
Larry," officers wrote in the affidavit. She also repeatedly told
police "she needed to be free from the demons."
Authorities did not identify what type of curse Lopez believed was
placed on her.
She admitted to police she "lost it" and stabbed her victim from
behind with a steak knife she found on the counter. He had been
sitting on a couch and she stabbed him approximately eight times,
police said.
The victim was found in his home covered in blood after multiple stab
wounds but was conscious when officers arrived.
Lee identified Lopez as his attacker, but when pressed further
officers said he replied "I can't speak anymore" as his eyes began to
roll to the back of his head, the affidavit states.
He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead, police said.
The suspect fled the home and hitched a ride to her mother's house.
Lopez's mom drove her to the bus station and when police arrived at
the home she informed police of her daughter's whereabouts.
Lopez is charged with first degree murder and is being held at Orange
County Jail without bail.
