New Orleans cops are hunting for three suspects in a shooting spree Sunday that left 17 injured at a Mother's Day parade.
Many of the victims were grazed, and most injuries are non-life threatening, The Associated Press reported.
Nine of the victims were taken to the city’s University Hospital, with three or four requiring surgery, New Orleans police said. At least three of those shot were in critical condition, CBS affiliate WWL-TV reported.
The youngest victim, a 10-year-old girl, suffered a graze wound, according to NOLA.com. Another person was injured in a fall during the commotion and was taken to the hospital.
The website said there were about 200 people gathered at the intersection of Frenchmen and Villere streets in the 7th Ward — a neighborhood ravaged by Hurricane Katrina — when the shots rang out around 2 p.m. About 400 were participating in the three block procession in the city's 7th Ward, where about 60% of the neighborhood's pre-Katrina population has returned to live.
At least three people are suspected in the shooting, said NOPD Superintendent Ronald Serpas. One of the suspects is described as a male between 18 and 22 with short hair, a white shirt and bluejeans, NOLA.com reported.
