Jaden Smith is striving for independence from his parents.
Will Smith plans to give the gift of freedom to his son with wife Jada Pinkett-Smith on his 15th birthday this year.
In an interview with The Sun, Smith says, "(Jaden) says, 'Dad, I want to be emancipated.' I know if we do this, he can be an emancipated minor, because he really wants to have his own place, like ooh."
Smith says he grew up with a strict father, so he understands his son's desire to be on his own.
"If kids just want to have command of their lives, I understand. We generally don’t believe in punishment. From the time Jaden was five or six we would sit him down, and all he has to do is be able to explain why what he did was the right thing for his life," Smith adds on his parenting.
For Jaden to really separate himself from his parents at the age of 15, he would need to file court documents, get married or join the military.
A lot of kids have gotten themselves destroyed this way...Be wise Will!
