Miami Heat superstar Dwyane Wade gave a fan the surprise of a lifetime when he showed up at her senior prom on Friday.
Nicole Muxo, a senior at Archbishop F. Coleman Carroll High School in Miami, didn't hear back from the 31-year-old basketball star after she asked him to be her date in a YouTube video. But she did send him a direct message on Twitter with the location info "just in case."
Wade had a rare night off thanks to a stellar fourth quarter in Wednesday's playoff game against the Chicago Bulls. When he got Muxo's Twitter DM, Wade said he decided to "go and make this a memorable moment for her."
Muxo, and her classmates, were shocked when a smartly dressed Wade walked into the La Jolla Ballroom in Coral Gables.
"I was so surprised. I didn't expect it at all," Muxo told CBS Miami.
Wade danced with his date, took pictures and met her family. He said he couldn't stay for long, but he still succeeded in making Muxo's night.
"I'm going to remember it forever," she said. "This was definitely the highlight of my senior year."
As for Muxo's other date, Laurent Chaumin, he said he was cool with Wade showing up to sweep the teen off her feet.
"At least we both know how to dress," he joked.
This wasn't the first time Muxo had asked the NBA star to a school event. She went to two book signings in the fall and asked him to her homecoming dance. Wade said her persistence paid off.
"She continued to go for it no matter how many times I told her I'm going to be busy she continued asking if I'm going to come," he told CBS Miami.
Later that night, Wade tweeted, "I had a blast at Prom ... Never be 2 scared to ask."
