American NBC News Freelancer Tests Positive for Ebola in Liberia

An American freelancing for NBC News in Liberia has tested positive
for the Ebola virus, the news network announced Thursday.

The 33-year-old cameraman started showing symptoms of the virus on
Wednesday — one day after being hired as a second cameraman for NBC
News Chief Medical Editor and Correspondent Dr. Nancy Snyderman.

The man, whose name is being withheld at his family's request, had
been working in Liberia for the past three years before contracting
the virus, according to NBC.

He sought medical treatment Thursday and is expected to be flown back
to the U.S. for treatment.

"The rest of the crew, including Dr. Nancy, are being closely
monitored and show no symptoms or warning signs," NBC News President
Deborah Turness said in a note to staff.

Out of "an abundance of caution," they next plan to fly Synderman and
three other NBC employees with her back on a private charter flight
Friday.

They will then be placed under quarantine in the U.S. for 21 days
"which is at the most conservative end of the spectrum of medical
guidance," stated Turness.

"Thanks to everyone for the kind wishes. Our NBC cameraman diagnosed
with Ebola is in good hands and will be air lifted to the U.S.,"
Synderman tweeted late Thursday night.
